Climate Change and the Cannabis Movement

Fearmongering to Fight the Movement

marijuana-growerI spoke in my previous blog, Liberty and the Marijuana Movement about how the government used propaganda and fear mongering to push through illegal legislation that made Marijuana and Hemp illegal. I am astounded to see the environmentalist movement on board with the Fed and bureaucrats to blame Cannabis crops for increased man-made climate change. Most of the green movement (and I’m not talking green we smoke!) are some of the biggest pot-heads I’ve ever known! To think that they would allow their movement to be hijacked by the Federal Government and State bureaucracies to attempt to lie and propagate a falsehood about cannabis is sad.

I recently read an article (found here) that attempts to blame part of the drought in California on Marijuana cultivation! Are you kidding me!?

“As winter turns to spring, the Californian drought has brought on record-setting heat waves as the state records its worst drought in more than a 1,000 years. Now, The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has published a study that has linked the water shortage to the cultivation of marijuana.”

Propagandists rely heavily on the sheep in our population to just take a news story at face value. They really expect, and rightfully so, that the average reader isn’t going to click the study link and review it’s sources. So allow me to expose some of the sources of this information!

  • Corva D. Requiem for a CAMP: The life and death of a domestic U.S. drug war institution. Int J Drug Policy.
  • United States Department of Justice. Domestic cannabis cultivation assessment 2007.
  • National Drug Control Strategy Data Supplement. Executive Office of the President, Office of National Drug Control Policy; 2013.
  • Arnold JM. Energy Consumption and Environmental Impacts Associated With Cannabis Cultivation. M.Sc. Thesis, Humboldt State University. 2013. (HSU Receives $5.8 Million Federal Grant for Innovative Biomass Research)
  • Humboldt County Planning and Building Department. Forest Resources [Internet]. Humboldt County, CA; 2002

These are just a few. Noticing a trend? If you research the authors, schools and organizations listed in the study, you will find that nearly all receive funding from the Federal Government or Corporations who stand to lose a lot if industrial Hemp and Marijuana succeed.

Here’s another example:

“But potheads, or at least those who worry about the “climate crisis,” may still need to sing the blues. A new study by Evan Mills of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory finds that indoor Cannabis production has a very large carbon footprint. If you’re too far gone to read the study, man, then, like, just look at the picture:”

So who is Evan Mills? Here’s the link to his study:

Allow me to hit the high points of Mr. Mills bias!

  • U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
  • U.S. Global Climate Change Research Program (GCRP)

Most of his funding for research comes from the Federal government and State Government.

His premise relies heavily on the use of electricity in the cultivation of Marijuana, and as we all know, even us flat earthers as we’re called, electricity is the devil and the production of it the main cause for man made climate change. If Mr. Mills didn’t side with the Federal government, he would lose all that precious funding he receives.

It’s reefer madness all over again but instead of using racism and bigotry, they are attempting to fear the population into believing that Cannabis will bring about drought and further push global warming. I’m not going to debate the veracity of the man made climate change movement, that’s not relevant for this blog. What is relevant is that once again, the Federal government is doing everything they can to demonize marijuana and cannabis to maintain their control and power and to appease the big corporations and groups who stand to lose billions if cannabis and hemp are legalized. And they have their willing henchmen in academia and the media ready to spout their propaganda and hysteria.
