National “420” Cannabis Week Events

420-eventsWelcome to 4/20 national cannabis week! Nationwide, cannabis connoisseurs celebrate April 20th in what’s become the quintessential stoner holiday. Although theories as to the true origins of 420 range from the date that Jim Morrison (or Jimi Hendrix, or Janis Joplin) died, to the police radio code for smoking in progress, to the number of compounds in marijuana (there are 315)–the term 420 was actually coined by a group of California high school students in 1971, and popularized by the Grateful Dead. As cannabis becomes legalized in more states, expect annual 420 festivals to grow.

Here’s a roundup of 420 events happening around the country this week:

420 Blaze (Anchorage, AK): The third state to legalize recreational marijuana, Alaska’s second annual 420 Blaze festival, brings together music, cannabis products and vendors, food, and prizes.
